This Project Exists Because the System Doesn’t Work for Patients
The American healthcare system is complex by design. Confusion benefits those who profit from it. Patients are left to figure things out on their own—often after the damage is done.
The Marshall Allen Project exists to change that.
We provide clear, practical help to people facing unfair medical bills, confusing insurance decisions, and medical debt they don’t understand or shouldn’t owe. Our work is focused on one thing: giving people the knowledge and support they need to take control of their healthcare costs.
Where This Work Comes From
Marshall Allen (1972–2024) spent his career exposing how the healthcare system really works—and showing everyday Americans how to fight back.
He didn’t believe patients were powerless. He believed they were kept in the dark. His reporting, research, and firsthand advocacy revealed that many medical bills are negotiable, many charges are incorrect, and many decisions can be challenged—if you know how.
Marshall found purpose in helping people realize they had options. His strategies weren’t abstract ideas. They were practical tools that worked in real situations.
This project exists to make those tools available to anyone who needs them.
The Problem Didn’t End
Medical debt continues to burden tens of millions of Americans. Billing errors, surprise charges, and opaque pricing remain common. Most people still don’t know what to question, who to call, or how to push back.
The Marshall Allen Project carries this work forward because the need hasn’t gone away.
Our role is not to replace the healthcare system—but to help people navigate it with clarity, confidence, and support.
